9 is the magic number

It was almost sold out. I didn't want to miss it. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is performing Beethoven's 9th at the end of June. All year I have been debating this. It has been a dream of mine for at least 10 years to see/hear this performed live. So, I broke down and bought two tickets. All performances are almost entirely sold out. The seats are vertigo inducing. But, it's about the sound - not the view, right? :)

I. cannot. wait.

*giddy!*

a little thursday afternoon rant

I am in Caribou Coffee studying some incredibly dense social theory. I am making progress, and am able to concentrate over the sounds of mumbled speaking and the espresso bean grinder - but a woman just came in with her (I would guess) 3 year old daughter and proceeded to plop a portable DVD player in front of her. The sound is loud enough for the entire shop to hear it.

Whatever happened to children being able to sit in a restaurant and draw, look at a book, play with a little toy.....do we have to have our children plugged in during all waking hours? Are we that selfish with our time that we have to shut up our kids with movies? Ugh. Never mind that the rest of the world might not want to listen to Disney movies. :P

Rant over. :)
